National Bike Month in Denver

The month of May is designated National Bike Month, established in 1956 by the league of American Bicyclists. In addition to May being National Bike Month, it is also National Bike to Work Day on May 16 and National Bike to Work Week May 12-16.

Interesting facts:

- Commuting by bicycle burns as much as 540 calories every hour
- Women reduce their risk of developing heart disease by half by bicycling at least 20 miles each week
- Between 2001-2011, there was a 47 percent increase in people who began commuting to work by bicycle?
