Cheer Up the Lonely Day was started so people can uplift the spirits of lonely people by reaching out to them. If you know someone who is alone a lot, who does not have family or many friends, then why not give them a call just to say 'hello?' The holiday was started by Francis Pesek as a way to show kindness towards people who were lonely, forgotten, living in nursing homes, or with no family to care for or check up on them.
