Ice Cream Soda Day in Denver

Every June 20 is National Ice Cream Soda Day, so why not relax with an old fashioned ice cream soda today? Ice cream sodas were originally invented in 1874 by Robert Green during Philadelphia's sesquicentennial celebration. According to legend, Green added the ice cream once he ran out of ice. To this day, Robert Green's tombstone is transcribed with the phrase "Originator of the Ice Cream Soda."

If you live in the Denver area and want to celebrate National Ice Cream Soda Day, there are many options available. First of all, you can celebrate at home by exploring one of several different ice cream soda recipes. Second, you can head out to a local soda fountain (there are not many of these left) or ice cream parlor. For example:

1) The Lyons Soda Fountain is one of the oldest soda fountains in Colorado, and dishes out authentic ice cream sodas.
2) The Highland Park Old Fashioned Soda Fountain has been open for more than 100 years, and offers standard soda fountain fare as well as diner style food!
